Völlig neu ist aber, dass die Insekten – so legt es eine viel beachtete Studie dreier hochseriöser Wissenschaftler aus den Fachbereichen Neurobiologie und Genetik nahe – eigentlich auch Karussellfliegen heißen könnten! In der Fachzeitschrift „Current Biology“ weisen Dr. Wolf Hütteroth (Leipzig/Newcastle) Dr. Tilman Triphan (Leipzig), Dr. Clara Ferreira (Newcastle), dass die Tierchen auch einen ganz profanen Hang zum Vergnügen haben: Zumindest jede vierte Fruchtfliege fährt gern Karussell! Beide Bereiche verfügten über eine Futterstelle, Flugraum und ein Mini-Karussell von vier Zentimetern Durchmesser. Einziger Unterschied: Ein Karussell dreht sich, das andere nicht.
